2009 WIGL Facts

With the regular season over and the playoffs around the corner, I felt it was a good time to share some interesting (or not so interesting) information about our 2009 season. We had many people record personal bests for 9 holes, record their first par, birdie, eagle, etc. Going forward, when you have special news to share, please let me know and I will update the news tab on our site. Congrats to all of you that had a special accomplishment on the course this year.

Team Facts:

We had 164 matches played across 9 golf courses.

The largest margin of victory was 74.5 to 11.5, by Noramco.

The longest winning streak was 9 matches, Astra Zeneca.
AZ was the only team with 9 wins. Keen Gas finished with 8.

3 teams finished with 7 wins, WTC #2, HSBC Retail Service and Agilent Technologies.

The longest losing streak was 8 matches, team to remain nameless to protect the innocent J

3 matches ended in a 43 – 43 tie.

We introduced 8 new teams and 4 new courses to our league. I believe each number to be the largest ever.

4 of our 8 new teams qualified for the playoffs, congrats to each.
DCPERA #1 has the most active golfers, 20 participated.

The average active roster is 12.6 players.

Individual Facts:

417 Golfers participated this season.

121 Were new golfers to our league. This may be my favorite stat!

10 people played in all 10 of their team’s matches.

Ron Marandola (DANG Gold) had a hole in one at Delaware National, hole #3!

Vince Fiorelli (White Clay) and Curt Foster (Delaware National) both shot even par 36’s. The low rounds of the year.

John Iffland and Matt Brainard both shot 1 over par 36’s at Deerfield.

Gail Irrgang led all the ladies with her 1 over par 36 at Rock Manor.

The lowest variance between high and low rounds, (minimum 3 rounds played) was Chris Cooper, 3 rounds, all 56.

7 other golfers had only a 1 stroke differential. Talk about models of consistency.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is Dave Skinner with a 22 stroke difference from high to low among his 9 rounds.

Most improved from last season is Jon Malick. He played 6 matches this year and dropped his handicap 8 strokes.

I want to personally thank all 417 of you that teed it up this season along with the 9 golf courses that provide us with a place to play golf, meet new people and enjoy the camaraderie of the WIGL. Also, thank you to our Board of Governors and our League Outing Committee. Your assistance in operating the league is greatly appreciated.

If you enjoyed the league, tell a friend and encourage them to register a team for 2010. I am already accepting teams for our 2010 waiting list. If you have suggestions for improvements, please share them with me and / or your team captain. This is your league and we will do all we can to continue to grow and improve our organization.

Openings still remain for the outing. This is a great day and I hope you sign up. Information is on our website. Good luck to the 18 playoff teams.
